Description
My entry for the CGtalk challenge 'spectacular', put a lot of effort into this one, was a huge self imposed test, i did the first couple of stages about a year ago, been a major opus, so i'm glad it's out the way, anyway, psCS2 no referenceaccompanying text :-
'Spectacular', this word conjures up so many meanings, all of which are personal perceptions, this is mine, how in one instant, you can make a spectacular decision that affects your whole life, like some outside force, you recieve an epiphany, where a split second can seem an eternity, this is my representation of how that feels,
About the image, people take what they want out of an image, subjectivity is something I'd like to remain as much as I can, but the premise is, the central figure, chaos surrounding him, in a state of contemplation, and the message contained is how you can always, no matter what the circumstances, change your purpose or direction in life, it is this human trait that I find more spectacular than anything else.

One or two of the aitborne items looks funny.. not defined... compaired to the rest which is truly inspiring...
Going out now to round up 50,000 people and take the photograph...

Here's a good cgtalk type of crit:
- The central focus really is not desirable for me here, just somewhat boring and expected. Because of that bright and central focus, this resembles a cd cover or flyer for me... There's a huge white space on top, black on bottom; mountain/hilltop goes high on the left, low in the middle, high on the right; bonfire on the left, bonfire on the right; huge white bald guy in the middle - it's too central.
- There lacks a good atmosphere... you put clouds of smoke rising from the middle but yet, the clouds of smoke do not mix with the air. Also, the light coming down on the central figure is very obvious, cliche, etc. Again, without that atmosphere, it's too obvious. With some visual data in the air, it would have been a lot more subtle.
- The fires in the back really bother me. They look so sharp from here but yet if they were that actual distance IRL, you would NOT be able to see as much as you wanted to put into them.
- MAJOR crit: All the faces are the same with different wigs put on top... don't know if you intended this, but I don't really care for it, as it doesn't add to the piece.
- The figures look a little flat. I think perhaps the gestures could have been better and that would have helped a lot.
- Also... having the "battlefield" so dark while the sky is so white...too odd.
- I agree about the color, but I can't find that much hue. I wish there were more color.
Overall, not really for me but it's a good start. +7

thanks a lot everyone, much appreciated
FakeIllusion, yeah, wanted the contrast in there, rule of thirds, kept it very formulated in composition to try to make it iconic
starqueen, really appreciate you taking the time for that, the brief was for an iconic image, so i kept the composition formal, i guess it is cliched in a way, but it was kind of the effect i was after (and the colour choice is my usual subdued self), you cant win em all
